Unbound Article for Dunners (IRMC-AMEX Newsletter)

Be Unbound— by: vikz (Nov.30, 2006)

A lot of us were unaware that were BOUND to “something” that eats up our time to spend it wisely and productive. As a result we ended up running in circles and not fulfilling the “purpose” why we are working or why are we HERE.

We often forgot the simple “roles” that we do from day to day. These roles comprises our wholeness as an individual. The roles that we portray everyday are the TRUE reflection of ourselves. You may be amaze or not, simple as it is but that will MAKE you for the rest of your lives. These roles are: being a child, a friend, a neighbor, an employee, a citizen and as a Christian.

The Inaugural Speech of John F. Kennedy in January 20th 1961 created a big impact in the United States and the message is still alive until now: “Ask not what your country can do for you but ask what you can do for the country.”

Many of us may vaguely understand how we can do something for our country especially when graft and corruption is rampant and evident left and right in the government. But one thing for sure will help us be UNBOUND from the old thought “wala ng solusyon yan”. All we need to do is start from our SELF and be just like the kid in the movie PAY IT FORWARD.

This movie is about a young boy who had a school social studies assignment that leads to social changes. And these changes spread from city-to-city. Assigned to come up with some idea that will improve mankind, a young boy (Haley Joel Osment) decides that if he can do three good deeds for someone and they in turn can "pay it forward" and so forth, positive changes can occur. What appears to initially be a failure is indeed a success that is not immediately known but is traced backwards by a reporter who is a benefactor. The initial recipients of the boy are a drug addict (James Cavaziel), his badly scarred school teacher (Kevin Spacey), and his alcoholic mother (Helen Hunt). While physically and mentally scarred by past events, the teacher is not the only one bearing scars. The young boy fears his mother's fate, particularly at his brutal, alcoholic father's (Jon Bon Jovi) hands. The mother also bears scars from her childhood with a homeless, alcoholic mother (Angie Dickinson).

Another UNBOUND story is Rizal’s Life. We all know how his life greatly influenced a lot of people around the world. His statues in Germany, Spain, China, Japan and in the Philippines will show how he was BOUND before by his past mistakes. Rizal’s life is a perfect example of knowing how he failed and succeeded. His life will remind us that life is not PERFECT. But in every imperfections IMPROVEMENT will all lead us to a higher realm that will greatly affect our GENERATION.

Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country.

Ask not what the gov’t can do for you, but ask what you can do for the gov’t.
Ask not what IRMC can do for you, but ask what you can do for IRMC.
Ask not what your parents can do for you, but ask what you can do for your parents. Ask not what your brothers can do for you, but ask what you can do for your brothers. Ask not what your spouse can do for you, but ask what you can do for your spouse.
Ask not what your son can to for you, but ask what you can do for your son.
Ask not what the church can do for you, but ask what you can do for the church.
Ask not what OTHERS can do for you, but ask what you can do for OTHERS.
